ABSTRACT

Alambusha (Biophytum sensitivum) belonging to the family oxalidaceae, commonly known as Mukkutti, is mostly found in marshy regions of south India, abundantly seen during rainy season. It is known as the “Small Tree Plant” with sensitive leaflets and bright yellow circular small flowers resembles like a tree in its texture and looks. The phytochemistry of B.sensitivum showed a wide range of chemical compounds, such as, two biflavones, three flavonoids and two acids. The plant is described in Ayurvedic classics, by Nighantu Acharyas, as Krimighna herb. The plant, is traditionally believed to exhibit antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activity, radioprotection, immune-modulation, antibacterial, wound-healing, hypoglycemic actions. B.sensitivum has been used as traditional medicine for several purposes such as expectorant, stimulant, and tonic. It is recommended to be used in the treatment of stomach ache, asthma, treating insomnia, convulsions, cramps, chest complaints, inflammations, wound infections, tumors, and remedying chronic skin diseases. ABSTRACT

Background: The upper gastrointestinal tract is affected by a spectrum of conditions which span from infectious, idiopathic, inflammatory diseases, polyps, motility disorders and malignancy. Upper gastrointestinal scopy is believed to be the most effective screening modality as it not only allows direct visualization of oesophagus, gastric and duodenal mucosa but to perform biopsies in suspected malignancies. Aim: To evaluate persistent upper abdominal pain by upper gastrointestinal scopy.Methods: A total of 100 patients presented with complains of persistent upper abdominal pain were subjected to upper gastrointestinal scopy. Biopsies in indicated cases were taken from abnormal areas and sent for histopathology.Results: Most common finding in patients according to upper gastrointestinal scopy was gastritis (27%), followed by duodentitis (9%), and gastroduodenitis (7%). Rapid urease test in cases of gastritis and duodenitis to determine H. pylori infection were positive in 53.8% cases.Conclusions: Because of its precision and relatively safe technique upper GI endoscopy can be considered in patients above age of 50 years presenting to surgical OPD with complaints of persistent pain in upper abdomen. Investigating helicobacter pylori should be considered in all patients found to have gastric or duodenal lesions on upper GI endoscopy as its association with these lesions ranges from 50 to 80%.

ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both processes are involved in the development of diabetes. Diabetes is also known as Madhumeha in Ayurveda. Diabetes Mellitus has become a global problem in spite of advances in modern science. Ancient science of Ayurveda has discussed diabetes at length thousands of years ago. Number of diabetic patients are increasing in very high range. Year by year, its growing speed is very fast. In Ayurveda there are many ways to prevent diabetes mellitus and to cure its complications. Ayurvedic medications and management is very helpful and very effective in specially for diabetes. In this paper, trying to explain the hypoglycemic effect of Momordica (Karela) in diabetes mellitus (Madhumeh). Karela is specifically used as a folk medicine for diabetes. Several researches proved that it contains a hypoglycaemic or insulin-like principle, designated as 'plant-insulin', which has been found highly beneficial in lowering the blood and urine sugar levels.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (known as Amavata in Ayurveda) is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. Autoimmune diseases are illnesses that occur when the body's tissues are mistakenly attacked by their own immune system. Patients with autoimmune diseases have antibodies in their blood that target their own body tissues, where they can be associated with inflammation. Because it can affect multiple other organs of the body, Rheumatoid Arthritis is referred to as a systemic illness and is sometimes called rheumatoid disease. According to the Ayurvedic system of medicine the formation of endotoxins called ‘Aam’. ‘Aam’ is basically undigested and unassimilated food of our body. ‘Aam’ also results from leading an unhealthy life style, ingestion of state food, defrosting and reheating eatables, mental tension and stress. the herbs have the potential to treat symptoms of RA like inflammation and pain other than that, it also treats arthritis at immune and free radical level. These herbs are known for their immunosuppressive action, anti-inflammatory action, analgesic action and antioxidant action. It was concluded that RA can be cured completely or manage well with Ayurveda medicines and Panchakarma without any side effects.

ABSTRACT

CDRI compound no. 99/411 is a potent 1,2,4-trioxane antimalarial candidate drug under development at our Institute. An HPLC method for determination of CDRI 99/411 with its starting material and intermediates has been developed and validated for in process quality control and stability studies. The analytical performance parameters such as linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity, limit of detection (LOD) and lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) were determined according to International Conference on Harmonization ICH Q2(R1) guidelines. HPLC separation was achieved on a RP-select B Lichrospheres column (250 mm ? 4 mm, 5μm, Merck) using water containing 0.1%glacial acetic acid and acetonitrile as the mobile phase in a gradient elution. The eluents were monitored by a photo diode array detector at 245 and 275 nm. Based on signal to noise ratio of 3 and 10 the LOD of CDRI 99/411 was 0.55 mg/mL, while the LLOQ was 1.05 mg/mL. The calibration curves were linear in the range of 1.05-68 mg/mL. Precision of the method was determined by inter- and intra-assay variations within the acceptable range.
